transportation:
Around the city, Taxi's are your best bet. While Uber is not legal in Italy, they do have Uber Black which connects riders to licensed black car drivers and high-end vehicles. For traveling between towns, Italy has a good train network connecting major cities.
CURRENCY:
(EURO) Major cities and tourist areas in Italy accept debit and credit cards for most of your needs. Carrying cash for Taxi's is recommended, which you can get upon arrival at a bank ATM.
is it expensive?
The cost is Moderate to High. During peak season, you can expect to spend $120- $400+/night on accommodations, depending on travel style. November-March is the off season & the cheapest time to visit.
Solo travel safety:
Solo Safety Rating: SAFE. Pickpocketing can occur in crowded tourist areas, public transportation, and busy markets.
language:
While English is widely spoken, a little Italian goes a long way. Even "Buongiorno" (Good morning/day), "Grazie" (Thank you), and "Scusi" (Excuse me) will be appreciated.
travel tips
Dont forget you need to validate your train ticket before getting on. You'll find yellow validation machines at the stations. Over planning is common - dont! Choose a couple "must see" attractions, then chill & savor the experience.
